Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examines the Iki Palek tradition as an expression of grief among the Dani people and its relevance to the practice of Christian faith in the GPI Tikulembang Galilea Congregation. This research employed qualitative methods with an ethnographic approach through field observations and interviews with traditional leaders, traditional practitioners, and congregation members. The results indicate that Iki Palek is a symbolic and communal expression of grief, embodying the values of solidarity, loyalty, and sacrifice within the Dani family. Using Stephen B. Bevans' anthropological model of contextual theology, this tradition is understood as a space for encounter between the Gospel and local culture. Although the practice of finger-cutting is no longer practiced by Christian congregations, its values remain relevant for critical reflection in light of Christian faith. This research emphasizes the importance of dialogue between faith and culture in developing a contextual and grounded practice of faith. Keywords: Iki Palek, Dani Tribe, Contextual Theology, Anthropological Model, Practice of Faith.
