Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara teologi etis Kristen dengan makna dan nilai yang terkandung dalam simbol budaya Batu Lettong dalam masyarakat Toraja. Batu Lettong merupakan simbol persatuan dan ikatan kekeluargaan yang berakar pada tradisi leluhur dan memiliki pengaruh kuat dalam kehidupan sosial masyarakat. Di sisi lain, teologi etis menekankan perwujudan iman Kristen dalam tindakan nyata yang mencerminkan kasih, tanggung jawab, keadilan, dan solidaritas terhadap sesama. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif-analitis, melalui studi pustaka dan wawancara untuk memperoleh pemahaman yang mendalam mengenai makna Batu Lettong serta relevansinya dalam kehidupan jemaat Kristen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai etis yang terkandung dalam Batu Lettong, seperti persaudaraan, kebersamaan, dan tanggung jawab sosial, memiliki keselarasan dengan prinsip-prinsip teologi etis Kristen. Oleh karena itu, Batu Lettong dapat dipahami sebagai simbol budaya yang mengandung nilai moral yang sejalan dengan Injil, selama dimaknai secara kritis dan tidak bertentangan dengan iman Kristen.Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat membantu gereja dalam mengembangkan pemahaman teologi yang kontekstual serta mendorong umat untuk menghayati iman Kristen secara etis dalam konteks budaya Toraja. Kata kunci: Teologi Etis, Batu Lettong, Budaya Toraja, Etika Kristen, Kontekstuali ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the relationship between Christian ethical theology and the meaning and values contained in the Batu Lettong cultural symbol in Torajan society. Batu Lettong is a symbol of unity and family ties rooted in ancestral traditions and has a strong influence on the community's social life. On the other hand, ethical theology emphasizes the embodiment of Christian faith in concrete actions that reflect love, responsibility, justice, and solidarity toward others. This research uses qualitative methods with a descriptive-analytical approach, through literature review and interviews to gain a deep understanding of the meaning of Batu Lettong and its relevance to the lives of Christian congregations. The results indicate that the ethical values contained in Batu Lettong, such as brotherhood, togetherness, and social responsibility, align with the principles of Christian ethical theology. Therefore, Batu Lettong can be understood as a cultural symbol containing moral values consistent with the Gospel, as long as it is interpreted critically and does not conflict with Christian faith. This research is expected to assist the church in developing a contextual understanding of theology and encourage the congregation to live out the Christian faith ethically within the context of Torajan culture.
