Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji representasi nilai kasih dan pengorbanan dalam anime Neon Genesis Evangelion (NGE), khususnya pada episode 24, melalui tinjauan teologi Kristen. Neon Genesis Evangelion merupakan karya apokaliptik modern yang tidak hanya menyajikan narasi fiksi ilmiah, tetapi juga pergumulan eksistensial, trauma psikologis, dan pencarian makna hidup. Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah menganalisis bagaimana nilai kasih Agape direpresentasikan dalam Neon Genesis Evangelion melalui pengorbanan Kaworu Nagisa yang ditinjau secara teologis dan apa implikaisnya bagi Masyarakat di Jemaat Bethel Buntu Lobo’. Melalui metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis naratif dan studi literatur teologis, penelitian ini mengeksplorasi hubungan antara pengorbanan diri dalam narasi anime dengan konsep pengorbanan Kristus di kayu salib. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tindakan Kaworu yang merelakan hidupnya demi kelangsungan umat manusia mencerminkan karakteristik kasih Agape yang bersifat self-giving dan radikal. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini menganalisis implikasi praktis dari nilai-nilai tersebut bagi kehidupan masyarakat di Jemaat Bethel Buntu Lobo’. Diharapkan hasil kajian ini dapat menjadi jembatan dialog antara budaya populer dan teologi, serta memberikan pemahaman baru bagi jemaat mengenai relevansi kasih pengorbanan dalam konteks kehidupan modern. ABSTRACT This study examines the representation of the values of love and sacrifice in the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion (NGE), particularly in episode 24, through Christian theological observations. Neon Genesis Evangelion is a modern apocalyptic work that presents not only a science fiction narrative, but also existential struggles, psychological trauma, and the search for the meaning of life. The main focus of this study is to analyze how the value of Agape love is represented in Neon Genesis Evangelion through the sacrifice of Kaworu Nagisa from a theological perspective and its implications for the community at the Bethel Buntu Lobo' Congregation. Using a qualitative method with a narrative analysis approach and theological literature study, this study explores the relationship between self-sacrifice in the anime narrative and the concept of Christ's sacrifice on the cross. The results show that Kaworu's act of sacrificing his life for the continuation of humanity reflects the characteristics of Agape love, which is self-giving and radical. Furthermore, this study analyzes the application of these values to the lives of the community at the Bethel Buntu Lobo' Congregation. It is hoped that the results of this study can bridge the dialogue between popular culture and theology, as well as provide new understanding for the congregation regarding the relevance of sacrificial love in the context of modern life.
