Abstract
ABSTRACT This study examines the meaning of marriage in the Molibu tradition and its relationship with Christian teachings and state regulations. The main problem focuses on differences in marital legitimacy between customary law, the church, and the state, which create confusion and conflict among church members. This research aims to critically analyze Molibu marriage practices and to explore possibilities for dialogue between cultural tradition and Christian faith. The theoretical framework is based on biblical theology of marriage and Jacques Derrida’s theory of deconstruction. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, church leaders, elders, and married couples. The findings reveal that Molibu marriage is considered valid socially and customarily, but it does not fully reflect marriage as a sacred covenant before God. Therefore, a contextual reinterpretation is needed so that the Molibu tradition can support Christian marital values without losing its cultural identity. Keywords: Marriage, Molibu Tradition, Jacques Derrida’s Deconstruction Theory.
