Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to reconstruct students' negative perceptions of Guidance and Counseling (GC) teachers as disciplinary authorities at SMPN 1 Malimbong Balepe’. The research gap lies in the between the ideal role of GC teachers as facilitators and the reality of their "school police" image due to predominantly repressive interactions. The term "reconstruction" is chosen to emphasize the rebuilding of students' understanding foundations through a qualitative approach. Data were collected via interviews, observations, and documentation involving eighth-grade students. Results indicate that empathetic communication and confidentiality successfully built basic trust, shifting some students' perceptions toward a more positive view. However, the reconstruction was not comprehensive as understanding of the holistic functions of GC services remained minimal. It is concluded that service optimization and intensive socialization are necessary to transform negative stigma into comprehensive appreciation of the professional role of GC teachers. Keywords: Perception Reconstruction, GC Teacher, Disciplinary Authority, Negative Stigma.
