Abstract

Kata Kunci: Kompetensi Sosial, Guru PAK, Anak Berkebutuhan Khusus ABSTRACT This study is motivated by the case of a child with special needs (CSN) who frequently exhibited disruptive behaviors, including causing disturbances in the classroom and taking belongings from teachers and peers. These conditions led most teachers to distance themselves from the child, with the homeroom teacher even recommending that the child be transferred to a Special Education School (SLB). In contrast, the Christian Religious Education (CRE) teacher demonstrated a markedly different response by consistently approaching, embracing, and guiding the child with patience and compassion, enabling the child to participate meaningfully in the learning process. This study aims to conduct an in-depth analysis of the role of the CRE teacher's social competence in dealing with children with special needs at UPT SDN 3 Makale. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consisted of the CRE teacher, the homeroom teacher, the school principal, and the child with special needs. The findings reveal that the CRE teacher plays a highly significant role, manifested through four dimensions of social competence: the ability to build social relationships, the ability to communicate educationally, the ability to demonstrate sympathetic attitudes, and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders. However, in practice, the CRE teacher faces three primary challenges, namely limited understanding of the specific needs of children with special needs, inadequate learning facilities and infrastructure, and the absence of a special assistant teacher (GPK) at the school. These conditions require the CRE teacher to continuously self-adapt independently in order to realize inclusive and quality education for all students. Keywords: Social Competence, CRE Teacher, Children with Special Needs.
