Abstract
Penelitian ini Menganalisis Makna Syair Badong dalam Adat Rambu Solo’ di Pangala’ Kecamatan Rindingallo, menggunakan teori interpretatif yang menekankan budaya sebagai jaringan makna yang ditenun tersebut merefleksikan stratifikasi sosial Toraja (Bangsawan,Menengah,Rakyat Biasa),fungsi religius. Geertz membatu mengungkapkan lapisan-lapisan simbolik dalam Ritual Ma’badong di Pangala’ yang berfungsi memperkuat solidaritas komunal dan transisi roh ke alam lain Rambu Solo’ merupakan acara pemakaman di Toraja yang komples dimana tarian badong yang dibuat dalam bentuk lingkaran laki-laki syair dilantunkan untuk menceritakan kisah hidup almarhum/almarhuma dalam bentuk syair, meratapi kehilangan dan memperkuat ikatan tongkonan (keluarga besar). Di Pangala’ Rindingallo Badong mencerminkan strata sosial Toraja. Geertz memandang ritual ini sebagai Teks budayaa yang kaya simbol,dimana gerakan dan lirik bukan sekedar ekspresi emosi melainkan model dunia yang mengintegrasikan agama, status Syair badong mengandung makna religius ,sosial dan estetis ,pujian, kebaikan, dan nasehat, mencerminkan interprestasi Geertz tentang simbol sebagai teks budaya. Fungis religius melibatkan doa agar roh diterima, sementara fungsi sosial mempererat ikatan masyarakat melalui ratapan. Kata Kunci : Syair Badong, Rambu Solo’, Ma’badong,Makna Badong ABSTRACT This study analyzes the meaning of the Badong poem in the Rambu Solo' tradition in Pangala', Rindingallo District, using an interpretive theory that emphasizes culture as a woven web of meanings that reflects Torajan social stratification (noble, middle class, commoner) and religious functions. Geertz helps reveal the symbolic layers in the Ma'badong ritual in Pangala', which serves to strengthen communal solidarity and the transition of the spirit to the other world. Rambu Solo' is a complex Torajan funeral ceremony where the badong dance, created in a circle of men, is sung to tell the life story of the deceased in verse, mourning the loss, and strengthening the bonds of the tongkonan (extended family). In Pangala', Rindingallo, the Badong reflects Torajan social strata. Geertz views this ritual as a symbolically rich cultural text, where the movements and lyrics are not merely expressions of emotion but rather models of the world that integrate religion and status. Badong poetry contains religious, social, and aesthetic meanings, offering praise, kindness, and advice, reflecting Geertz's interpretation of symbols as cultural texts. The religious function involves praying for the acceptance of spirits, while the social function strengthens community bonds through lamentation.
