Abstract
This article will primarily investigate the web of meaning and values contained within the name and actions of Melchizedeq in the context of Genesis 14. His appearance and famous encounter with Abram, the patriarch of Israel who afterward offers him a tithe, has contributed an important element for the depiction of Christological frameworks and ideas in the Epistle of Hebrew. This article also seeks to assess to what extent the narrative elements and ideas in Genesis 14 (and in the Psalms, at a glance) may offer ideas for intertextuality within the biblical text as well as within the hermeneutic interpenetration between religious traditions regarding the divine names in the OT with socio-religious infl uences of their surroundings. Additional information on the role of Melchizedeq in extra-canonical texts will also be briefl y mentioned. In essence, as a kind of mysterious actor, Melchizedeq has provided important contributions for OT and NT audiences (especially, in the Epistle of Hebrews) by affi rming and expanding theological ideas.
