Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the exegetical meaning of Ecclesiastes 3:9-13 and to understand its theological implications for members of Gereja Toraja Jemaat Pa’tengko who actively visit nightspots along Km 17-18.The research uses a descriptive qualitative method combined with grammatical-historical exegesis, covering analysis of the Hebrew text, transliteration, genre, context, and verse-by-verse interpretation. Field data were gathered through interviews with church members, nightspot employees, business owners, and church leaders, then verified through source triangulation. This theological study draws on the concepts of yitron (profit), inyan (toil), yapheh (divine timeliness), ha-olam (eternity), and mattat Elohim (the gift of God) found in Ecclesiastes 3:9-13. The findings show that church members’ involvement in nightspots is not merely a moral problem but a response to work-related weariness and a longing for genuine joy, a longing that remains unmet because it is sought in the wrong place. The study recommends that Gereja Toraja Jemaat Pa’tengko develop an empathetic pastoral approach and provide healthy, joyful spaces for itsmembers. Keywords: Ecclesiastes 3:9-13; Pa’tengko Congregation; Nightspots.
