Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis esensi pengalaman subjektif jemaat terhadap pendeta sebagai tomammang dalam konteks kehidupan beragama masyarakat Kasambi, Kecamatan Simbuang, Kabupaten Tana Toraja. Pokok masalah penelitian ini adalah adanya pemaknaan jemaat yang menempatkan pendeta bukan hanya sebagai pemimpin gerejawi, tetapi juga sebagai figur yang menjalankan fungsi-fungsi sosial, spiritual, dan kultural yang sebelumnya melekat pada tomammang. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori fenomenologi sosial Alfred Schutz, khususnya konsep lifeworld, typification, because-of-motive, dan in-order-to-motive. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jemaat memaknai pendeta sebagai “tomammang Kristen” yang menjadi mediator rohani, penjaga harmoni sosial, dan figur sentral dalam kehidupan beragama. Pemaknaan tersebut terbentuk oleh pengalaman historis, budaya Aluk Todolo, serta kebutuhan akan kepemimpinan spiritual yang dekat dengan kehidupan masyarakat. Temuan ini menegaskan adanya proses inkulturasi yang membentuk relasi erat antara kepemimpinan gerejawi dan budaya lokal di Kasambi. Kata Kunci: Pendeta, Tomammang, Fenomenologi, Kasambi, Inkulturasi ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the essence of the congregation's subjective experiences of the pastor as a tomammang (leader) in the context of the religious life of the Kasambi community, Simbuang District, Tana Toraja Regency. The central problem of this research is the congregation's interpretation of the pastor, which positions the pastor not only as a church leader but also as a figure who carries out the social, spiritual, and cultural functions previously associated with the tomammang. This study utilizes Alfred Schutz's theory of social phenomenology, specifically the concepts of lifeworld, typification, because-of-motive, and in-order-to-motive. The method used is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that the congregation interprets the pastor as a "Christian tomammang" who serves as a spiritual mediator, guardian of social harmony, and a central figure in religious life. This interpretation is shaped by historical experience, Aluk Todolo culture, and the need for spiritual leadership that is close to the community's life. These findings confirm the inculturation process that forms a close relationship between church leadership and local culture in Kasambi.
