Abstract
Kata Kunci: Pendampingan Pastoral, Penerimaan Diri, Kusta, Stigma, Gereja Toraja ABSTRACT Leprosy places a double burden on those affected, causing physical impairment as well as psychological distress brought on by the social stigma still attached to the disease. This situation led the author to examine how pastoral care contributes to the self-acceptance of leprosy sufferers at the Toraja Church, Batulelleng Congregation, Rantepao Classis. The study aims to identify the form of pastoral care relevant to self-acceptance among leprosy sufferers in this congregation. A descriptive qualitative method was applied through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving the pastor, church elders, and leprosy sufferers as informants, with the data analyzed using six principles of pastoral care, namely presence, active listening, unconditional acceptance, empathy, confidentiality, and empowerment, together with four indicators of self-acceptance, namely a realistic self-view, independence from social validation, genuine self-respect, and emotional stability. The findings show that pastoral care at the Batulelleng Congregation remains limited to routine worship services and informal communication via WhatsApp, leaving most aspects of personal accompaniment unevenly fulfilled. In contrast, when care was carried out consistently through direct home visits, patient listening, and a family-like approach, all four indicators of self-acceptance showed clear improvement among the sufferers. The study affirms that planned and sustained pastoral care is a fundamental need for congregation members living in vulnerable conditions.
