Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi digital dan media sosial membawa dampak positif sekaligus negatif bagi kehidupan bergereja, salah satunya adalah munculnya fenomena echo chamber yang memengaruhi cara pemuda memahami khotbah. Dampak negatif dari digitalisasi inilah yang mengarahkan Penulis untuk membahas topik ini, dengan melihat bagaimana echo chamber khususnya dari segi khotbah memengaruhi cara berpikir dan merespons kalangan pemuda di Gereja Toraja Jemaat Elim Rantepao terhadap pemberitaan Firman. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan Studi Lapangan ( field research) yang data-datanya diperoleh melalui studi pustaka, observasi, dan wawancara. Sebagai hasil, Penulis menemukan bahwa dampak utama echo chamber karena adanya kebiasaan mengonsumsi khotbah motivasi di media sosial yang menggeser cara pemuda menilai khotbah, sehingga khotbah dogmatis dianggap tidak menarik. Pergeseran ini diperkuat oleh confirmation bias, sehingga khotbah di gereja dijadikan bahan perbandingan dan sebagian pemuda kemudian memilih menghindari ibadah ketika khotbah tidak sesuai harapan mereka. Kata Kunci : Echo Chamber, Confirmation Bias, Khotbah, Pemuda. ABSTRACT The development of digital technology and social media has both positive and negative impacts on church life, one of which is the emergence of the echo chamber phenomenon that influences the way young people understand sermons. This negative impact of digitalization led the author to discuss this topic, by examining how the echo chamber, especially in terms of sermons, influences the way young people in the Toraja Church Elim Rantepao think and respond to the proclamation of the Word. This study uses a qualitative method with a field study approach, the data of which is obtained through literature review, observation, and interviews. As a result, the author found that the main impact of the echo chamber is due to the habit of consuming motivational sermons on social media, which shifts the way young people assess sermons, so that dogmatic sermons are considered uninteresting. This shift is reinforced by confirmation bias, so that sermons in church are used as a comparison, and some young people then choose to avoid worship when sermons do not meet their expectations.
