Abstract

Kematian merupakan suatu kenyataan yang tidak dapat dihindari dalam kehidupan manusia, namun sering kali menimbulkan rasa takut dan kecemasan. Di GKMI Jemaat Buri’, ketakutan terhadap kematian masih ditemukan meskipun ajaran Kristen memberikan pengharapan akan kehidupan kekal. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pandangan Epikuros mengenai kematian serta relevansi teologisnya bagi GKMI Jemaat Buri’. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi kepustakaan, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jemaat memaknai kematian sebagai perpisahan antara tubuh dan roh serta sebagai awal kehidupan kekal bersama Allah. Meskipun demikian, rasa takut terhadap kematian masih dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor, seperti aspek spiritual, emosional, sosial, dan budaya. Menurut Epikuros, kematian tidak perlu ditakuti karena ketika kematian terjadi, manusia tidak lagi memiliki kesadaran maupun kemampuan untuk merasakan apa pun. Walaupun pandangan ini berbeda dengan iman Kristen yang mengakui adanya kebangkitan dan kehidupan kekal, pemikiran Epikuros tetap relevan sebagai bahan refleksi untuk membantu jemaat menghadapi kematian dengan lebih tenang, bijaksana, dan tidak diliputi ketakutan yang berlebihan. Kata Kunci: Kematian, Epikuros, Relevansi Teologis, GKMI Jemaat Buri’. ABSTRACT Death is an unavoidable reality in human life, but it often gives rise to fear and anxiety. In the GKMI Buri' Congregation, fear of death is still found even though Christian teachings offer hope for eternal life. Therefore, this study aims to examine Epicurus's views on death and their theological relevance for the GKMI Buri' Congregation. This research used a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and literature review, then analyzed descriptively. The results show that the congregation interprets death as the separation of body and spirit and the beginning of eternal life with God. However, fear of death is still influenced by various factors, such as spiritual, emotional, social, and cultural aspects. According to Epicurus, death should not be feared because when death occurs, humans no longer have consciousness or the ability to feel anything. Although this view differs from the Christian faith, which recognizes the resurrection and eternal life, Epicurus's thoughts remain relevant as a reflection to help the congregation face death with more calm, wisdom, and without being overcome by excessive fear.
