Abstract

Tradisi ma'padalim dalam ritus palitomate di masyarakat Bambang sering dianggap tidak relevan dengan Kekristenan sehingga mulai dihilangkan. Karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menganalisis makna tradisi ma'padalim berdasarkan model antropologis oleh Bevans dan melihat implikasinya bagi Jemaat Maranatha Rantelemo, sehingga jemaat dapat memahami makna dan nilai yang terkandung didalamnya. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan field research. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tradisi ma’padalim memiliki peran penting dalam ritus kematian masyarakat Bambang. Berdasarkan analisis dengan menggunakan model antropologis, ditemukan tiga makna utama dalam tradisi ma’padalim, yakni penghargaan yang tinggi terhadap kematian melalui penghayatan pemali, pengormatan melalui kesadaran akan sakralitas kematian, dan bahwa tradisi ma’padalim sebagai pengikat solidaritas, kohesi sosial dan pengharapan. Refleksi terhadap Kitab Suci menunjukkan bahwa makna tersebut sejalan dengan nilai-nilai Injil, seperti penghormatan, kasih, solidaritas dan pengharapan akan kehidupan kekal. Dengan demikian, ma’padalim dapat dimaknai kembali secara teologis sebagai bentuk penghormatan, kebersamaan dan penghayatan iman dalam konteks budaya lokal. ABSTRACT The ma'padalim tradition in the palitomate ritual among the Bambang community is often seen as irrelevant to Christianity, so it has started to be phased out. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the meaning of the ma'padalim tradition based on Bevans’ anthropological model and to see its implications for the Maranatha Rantelemo congregation, so that the congregation can understand the meaning and values contained within it. The method used is qualitative research with a field research approach. The results show that the ma’padalim tradition plays an important role in the death rituals of the Bambang community. Based on the analysis using the anthropological model, three main meanings of the ma’padalim tradition were found: a high respect for death through the understanding of taboos, remembrance through awareness of the sacredness of death, and that the ma’padalim tradition serves as a binding of solidarity, social cohesion, and hope. Reflection on the Holy Scriptures shows that this meaning aligns with the values of the Gospel, such as respect, love, solidarity, and hope for eternal life. Therefore, ma’padalim can be theologically reinterpreted as a form of respect, togetherness, and lived faith within the context of local culture.
