Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada makna kain dalam tradisi mekutana di Jemaat Ebenhaezer Rantemario dengan menggunakan analisis semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pemahaman masyarakat yang umumnya memandang kain hanya sebagai pelengkap adat dalam tradisi mekutana, tanpa memahami makna yang terkandung di dalamnya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap makna kain dalam tradisi mekutana berdasarkan teori semiotika Peirce serta menjelaskan implikasinya bagi GTM Jemaat Ebenhaezer Rantemario. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif, dengan teori semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kain dalam tradisi mekutana berfungsi sebagai representamen, dan pada tahap objek atau pemaknaan masyarakat, kain dimaknai sebagai pengikat hubungan, tanda kesungguhan laki-laki, dan bentuk penghormatan. Pada tahap interpretant, kain mengandung nilai pengharapan dan penerimaan, solidaritas sosial, serta kesetiaan dalam perkawinan. Kain dalm tradisi mekutana juga memiliki nilai teologis sebagai nilai persatuan penghormatan dan kasih dalam rumah tangga. Dari setiap makna ini kemudian berimplikasi bagi jemaat Ebenhaezer Rantemario pada penguatan pemahaman jemaat bahwa budaya lokal dapat dihayati selaras dengan iman Kristen, mendorong jemaat untuk membangun kehidupan perkawinan berdasarkan nilai-nilai Kristen, memperkuat kehidupan persekutuan dan solidaritas di tengah jemaat serta menjadi pedoman untuk melestarikan budaya. ABSTRACT This study focuses on the meaning of cloth in the mekutana tradition in the Ebenhaezer Rantemario Congregation using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis. This study is motivated by the understanding of society which generally views cloth only as a complement to customs in the mekutana tradition, without understanding the meaning contained therein. The purpose of this study is to uncover the meaning of cloth in the mekutana tradition based on Peirce's semiotic theory and explain its implications for the GTM of the Ebenhaezer Rantemario Congregation. The method used is descriptive qualitative research, with Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory. The results of the study show that cloth in the mekutana tradition functions as a representamen, and at the object or meaning stage of society, cloth is interpreted as a bond of relationships, a sign of male sincerity, and a form of respect. At the interpretant stage, cloth contains the values of hope and acceptance, social solidarity, and loyalty in marriage. Cloth in the mekutana tradition also has theological value as the value of unity, respect, and love in the household. Each of these meanings then has implications for the Ebenhaezer Rantemario congregation in strengthening the congregation's understanding that local culture can be lived in harmony with Christian faith, encouraging the congregation to build a married life based on Christian values, strengthening the life of fellowship and solidarity within the congregation and becoming a guideline for preserving culture.
