Abstract

Meriati (2020229039) menulis skripsi yang berjudul Studi Teologis Keselamatan Bayi Yang Meninggal Sebelum Dibaptis Perspektif John Calvin Terhadap Pemahaman GTM Jemaat Kalvari. Penelitian ini membahas pemahaman jemaat Kalvari Gereja Toraja Mamasa mengenai keselamatan bayi yang meninggal sebelum dibaptis. Permasalahan yang ditemukan ialah masih adanya jemaat yang menganggap bayi yang belum dibaptis tidak memperoleh keselamatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pandangan John Calvin tentang keselamatan serta melihat pengaruh sosio-kultural terhadap pemahaman jemaat. Landasan teori yang digunakan mencakup ajaran Calvin tentang keselamatan, baptisan sebagai tanda perjanjian dan pengaruh budaya terhadap pemahaman teologis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman jemaat masih beragam. Sebagian memahami keselamatan sebagai anugerah Allah, sedangkan sebagian lainnya masih menganggap baptisan sebagai syarat keselamatan. Disamping itu, tradisi adat masih kuat memengaruhi praktek penguburan bayi sehingga turut memengaruhi pemahaman warga jemaat. Karena itu, gereja perlu memperkuat pengajaran tentang keselamatan dan baptisan. Kata Kunci: Keselamatan, bayi, John Calvin, pemahaman. ABSTRACT Meriati (2020229039) wrote a thesis entitled "A Theological Study of the Salvation of Infants Who Die Before Baptism: John Calvin's Perspective on the Understanding of the Gereja Toraja Mamasa (GTM) Kalvari Congregation." This study examines the understanding of the Calvary Congregation of the Gereja Toraja Mamasa (GTM) regarding the salvation of infants who die before baptism. The problem identified is that some congregants still believe that unbaptized infants do not receive salvation. This study aims to analyze John Calvin's view on salvation and examine the influence of socio-cultural factors on the congregation's understanding. The theoretical framework includes Calvin's doctrine of salvation, baptism as a sign and seal of God’s covenant, and the influence of culture on theological understanding. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The findings that the congregation's understanding remains diverse. Some members understand salvation as a God’s grace, while others still regard baptism as a prerequisite for salvation. In addition, local customary tradition continue to strongly influence infant burial practices, which in turn shape the congregation's theological understanding. Therefore, the church needs to strengthen its teachings on the doctrines of salvation and baptism. Keywords: Salvation, infants, John Calvin, understanding.
