Abstract
Kata Kunci: Gereja Kontemporer, Nehemia 5:1-19, Providensia Allah, Resesi Ekonomi, Studi Eksposisi ABSTRACT This research aims to explore the concept of God's providence in the book of Nehemiah 5:1–19 and to delve into its relevance for the contemporary church living in the context of a global economic recession. The economic recession is not only an economic challenge but also a test of faith that questions God's presence and care for His people. In this section, Nehemiah emerges as a leader who actualises God's providence through acts of social justice and siding with the oppressed. This research uses a qualitative approach with library research methods and a biblical exposition approach. The analysis was conducted on the narrative structure, historical, social, and economic background of the text Nehemiah 5:1–19 to understand the concept of God's providence both theologically and practically. Next, the data is compared with the current church situation to find practical relevance. The research results show that God's providence in Nehemiah 5:1–19 is not only passive or spiritual but is concretely manifested through just leadership actions, the elimination of oppression, and the defence of the rights of the weak. The contemporary church is called to be an extension of God's providence by promoting social solidarity, economic justice, and leadership with integrity. Thus, the church is able to be a light and hope in the midst of the current global economic crisis.
