Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to explore and understand the essence and profound meaning of the Sisemba’ Sangmane tradition in Sesean Suloara’ through the lens of Edmund Husserl’s phenomenology. A qualitative method employing a pure phenomenology (transcendental phenomenology) approach was utilized. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and participants, then analyzed using the techniques of epoché (suspension of assumptions) and reduction to uncover the noema (what is experienced) and noesis (how it is experienced), thereby revealing the eidetic—or core essence—of the tradition. The findings indicate that the community's pure consciousness regarding Sisemba’ Sangmane perceives it not merely as a display of physical prowess or violence, but as a manifestation of a sacred communal space for celebrating post-harvest gratitude, strengthening bonds of solidarity, and affirming cultural identity. In conclusion, this tradition represents a form of lifeworld (Lebenswelt) that transcends the physical realm, wherein harmony and internal conflict resolution among the Toraja people are intersubjectively rewoven. This study seeks to contribute theoretically to the preservation of local intangible cultural heritage and to foster awareness among the younger generation regarding the importance of upholding noble Toraja values amidst the currents of modernization. Keywords: Sisemba’ Sangmane, Phenomenology, Edmund Husserl, Consciousness, Cultural Essence.
