Abstract

Culture shock merupakan salah satu tantangan yang dialami setiap individu saat memasuki lingkungan baru. Salah satunya dialami oleh seorang mahasiswa Papua di kampus IAKN Toraja. Mahasiswa tersebut cenderung mengalami culture shock akibat perbedaan bahasa, adat istiadat, pola pergaulan, sistem pendidikan, kondisi geografis, serta kerinduan terhadap keluarga (homesick). Dampak yang muncul meliputi kesulitan beradaptasi, hambatan komunikasi, tekanan emosional, dan penurunan rasa percaya diri. Permasalahan yang dialami oleh mahasiswa tersebut dapat di tolong dengan menerapkan pendekatan rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT), dengan teknik scaling dan teknik rational emotive imagery. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perencanaan konseling pastoral dalam mengatasi culture shock pada mahasiswa Papua di Institut Agama Kristen Negeri (IAKN) Toraja. Untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian maka pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode penelitian studi kasus. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian mahasiswa tersebut kecenderungan mengalami culture shock. Perencanaan konseling pastoral akan dilakukan dengan tiga tahapan. Tahap pertama, konseli menyadari akan pikirannya. Tahap kedua, mengubah proses pikiran konseli. Tahap tiga, mengeksplorasi dan mengubah ide tentang dirinya dan dunianya. Kata Kunci: Konseling Pastoral, Culture Shock, Mahasiswa Papua. ABSTRACT Culture shock is a challenge faced by individuals when entering a new environment. This is experienced by a Papuan student at the IAKN Toraja campus. The student tends to experience culture shock due to differences in language, customs, social interaction patterns, educational systems, and geographical conditions, as well as homesickness. The resulting impacts include difficulties in adaptation, communication barriers, emotional stress, and a decline in self-confidence. The issues faced by the student can be addressed by applying the Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) approach, utilizing scaling techniques and rational emotive imagery. Therefore, this study aims to describe pastoral counseling planning to address culture shock among Papuan students at the State Institute of Christian Religion (IAKN) Toraja. To achieve the research objective, a qualitative approach using the case study method was employed. The research results indicate that the student tends to experience culture shock. The pastoral counseling plan is structured in three stages: first, the counselee becomes aware of their thoughts; second, the counselee's thought processes are modified; and third, ideas regarding the self and the world are explored and transformed.
