Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji makna semiotik pakaian adat Toraja dan implikasinya bagi pembentukan karakter dalam pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Kristen di Lembang Pa'tengko, Kecamatan Mengkendek, Kabupaten Tana Toraja. Tujuan penelitian adalah mengetahui dan menganalisis makna semiotik pakaian adat Toraja dan implikasinya bagi pembentukan karakter dalam pembelajaran Pendidikan Agama Kristen. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi terhadap enam informan, dan analisis data menggunakan semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce serta model Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pakaian adat Toraja, khususnya motif Pa'sekong Kandaure dan Pa'bua' Tina', mengandung makna semiotik yang bekerja sekaligus sebagai ikon, indeks, dan simbol yang menyimpan nilai martabat, kebersamaan, dan ketekunan. Nilai-nilai tersebut memiliki implikasi langsung bagi pembentukan moral knowing, moral feeling, dan moral action menurut Thomas Lickona, dan dalam bingkai fondasi sosiologis PAK menurut Robert W. Pazmino, integrasi makna simbolik pakaian adat Toraja ke dalam pembelajaran PAK merupakan tanggung jawab iman yang relevan bagi pendidik Kristen. ABSTRACT This study examines the semiotic meaning of Toraja traditional clothing and its implications for character building in Christian Religious Education in Lembang Pa'tengko, Mengkendek District, Tana Toraja Regency. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the semiotic meaning of Toraja traditional clothing and its implications for character building in Christian Religious Education. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation of six informants, and data analysis used Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics and the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed that traditional Toraja clothing, especially the Pa'sekong Kandaure and Pa'bua' Tina' motifs, contain semiotic meanings that function as icons, indices, and symbols that embody the values of dignity, togetherness, and perseverance. These values have direct implications for the formation of moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action according to Thomas Lickona, and within the sociological framework of PAK according to Robert W. Pazmino, the integration of the symbolic meaning of Toraja traditional clothing into PAK learning is a relevant faith responsibility for Christian educators.
