Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara agama dan perubahan sosial dalam konteks modernisme dan budaya Toraja di Gereja Toraja Jemaat Kalvari Bera. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada peran gereja sebagai institusi sosial, dinamika solidaritas jemaat, pengaruh modernisme, serta keberlanjutan nilai-nilai budaya Toraja dalam kehidupan bergereja dan bermasyarakat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif-analitis. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur dan observasi terhadap pendeta, majelis jemaat, tokoh masyarakat, dan anggota jemaat. Landasan teori yang digunakan meliputi teori perubahan sosial Soerjono Soekanto, teori solidaritas sosial Emile Durkheim, teori modernisme, serta teori budaya dalam perspektif sosiologi agama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Gereja Toraja Jemaat Kalvari Bera masih berperan penting sebagai ruang pembentukan nilai, solidaritas, dan kebersamaan sosial, meskipun menghadapi tantangan modernisasi dan perubahan pola interaksi sosial. Solidaritas sosial jemaat menunjukkan perpaduan antara solidaritas mekanik dan solidaritas organik, sementara budaya Toraja tetap menjadi basis penting dalam membangun kebersamaan dan identitas sosial jemaat di tengah arus modernitas. ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the relationship between religion and social change in the context of modernism and Torajan culture at the Toraja Church of Kalvari Bera Congregation. The focus of the research is directed toward the role of the church as a social institution, the dynamics of congregational solidarity, the influence of modernism, and the continuity of Torajan cultural values in church and social life. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observations involving pastors, church elders, community leaders, and congregation members. The theoretical framework of this research includes social change theory (Soerjono Soekanto), Émile Durkheim’s theory of social solidarity, modernism theory, and cultural theory from the perspective of the sociology of religion. The findings indicate that the Toraja Church of Kalvari Bera Congregation continues to play a significant role as a space for the formation of values, solidarity, and social cohesion, despite facing challenges from modernization and changing patterns of social interaction. Congregational social solidarity reflects a combination of mechanical and organic solidarity, while Torajan culture remains an important foundation in fostering togetherness and social identity amid the currents of modernity.
