Abstract

Yerfa Siling, 2020218163, PEMAHAMAN TRADISI MA’PARAMPO DI GEREJA TORAJA Tinjauan Teologi Kontekstual di Jemaat Eben Haizer Burasia Klasis Bittuang Se’seng. Penelitian ini dilakukan di bawah bimbingan bapak Dr. Rannu Sanderan, S.Th, M.Th sebagai pembimbing I dan Jems Alam, S.Th, M.Si sebagai pembimbing II. Ma’parampo sebagai tradisi adat Toraja masih dipraktikkan oleh sebagian besar jemaat dan sering dipahami sebagai pengesahan perkawinan yang sah sehingga pasangan merasa telah diperbolehkan untuk hidup bersama, meskipun belum menerima pemberkatan gerejawi. Perbedaan pemahaman antara adat dan gereja ini menimbulkan ketegangan dalam kehidupan jemaat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguraikan pemahaman jemaat, gereja, dan pemangku adat mengenai Ma’parampo serta menganalisisnya dalam kerangka teologi kontekstual model sintesis. Menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Ma’parampo dipahami sebagai pengikatan adat yang sah secara sosial dan kultural, tetapi belum dapat disamakan dengan pernikahan Kristen. Ditinjau dari teologi kontekstual model sintesis Stephen B. Bevans, tradisi Ma’parampo mengandung nilai-nilai yang sejalan dengan iman Kristen, seperti tanggung jawab, kesetiaan, dan penghormatan terhadap keluarga. Gereja Toraja menerapkan pendekatan sintesis dengan menghargai Ma’parampo sebagai tradisi adat, namun tetap menegaskan pentingnya pemberkatan perkawinan sebagai pengesahan iman Kristen di hadapan Allah. This research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Rannu Sanderan, S.Th., M.Th. as Supervisor I and Jems Alam, S.Th., M.Si. as Supervisor II. Ma’parampo, as a traditional Torajan custom, is still practiced by the majority of church members and is often understood as a legitimate validation of marriage, leading couples to feel permitted to live together even though they have not yet received a church blessing. This difference in understanding between customary tradition and the church creates tension within congregational life. This study aims to describe the understanding of the congregation, the church, and traditional leaders regarding Ma’parampo and to analyze it within the framework of contextual theology using the synthesis model. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. The findings indicate that Ma’parampo is understood as a customary bond that is socially and culturally legitimate, but it cannot be equated with Christian marriage. Viewed from Stephen B. Bevans’ contextual theology synthesis model, the Ma’parampo tradition contains values that are in harmony with Christian faith, such as responsibility, fidelity, and respect for family. The Toraja Church applies a synthesis approach by appreciating Ma’parampo as a cultural tradition while continuing to emphasize the importance of marriage blessing as the confirmation of Christian faith before God.
