Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the symbolic meaning of tau-tau statues and their role in the Lembang Lipungan Tanete community using a qualitative descriptive approach and George Herbert Mead's Symbolic Interactionism theory. The results of the study indicate that tau-tau not only acts as a physical replica of a deceased person, but also as a symbol of social status, spirituality, and cultural identity. The belief that tau-tau is a shadow (bayo-bayo) of the deceased makes it a link between the real world and the spirit world. Through symbolic communication and repeated social actions, such as the Rambu Solo' ceremony, the meaning of tau-tau is constructed collectively. Tau-tau also becomes a medium for inheriting values, collective memory, and strengthening intergenerational bonds, thus, tau-tau is not only a cultural artifact, but a living symbol in the social space and rituals of society. Keywords: Tau-tau, Rambu solo', Symbolic Interactionism, Culture, identity.
