Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji mengenai makna teologis ritual ma’tollongngi dan implikasinya bagi jemaat Bamba Pantilang dengan menggunakan teori Clifford Geertz. Studi pustaka dilakukan dengan menelaah literatur terkait dengan skripsi, buku-buku, dan jurnal sementara itu wawancara mendalam dilakukan dengan tokoh adat dan anggota jemaat yang memiliki pemahaman tentang ma’tollongngi. Berdasarkan analisis data yang dilakukan diperoleh temuan bahwa dengan pendekatan teori Clifford Geertz, yang menekankan pemahaman budaya melalui interaksi simbolik dan makna. Geertz berargumen bahwa budaya bukan hanya seperangkat norma dan nilai, tetapi juga sebuah sistem simbol yang membentuk bagaimana individu dan kelompok memahami dan berinteraksi dengan dunia di sekitar mereka. Kata Kunci: Ritual Ma’tollongngi, Makna. ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the theological meaning of the ma’tollongngi ritual and its implications for the faith of the Bamba Pantilang congregation members using Clifford Geertz’s theory. Literature study was conducted by reviewing literature related to theses, books, and journals while in-depth interviews were conducted with traditional leaders and congregation members who have an understanding of ma’tollongngi. Based on the data analysis conducted, it was found that with the Clifford Geertz theory approach, which emphasizes cultural understanding through symbolic interaction and meaning. Geertz argues that culture is not only a collection of norms and values, but also a system of symbols that shape how individuals and groups understand and interact with the world around them. Key words: The meaning of the Ma’tollongngi Ritual.
