Abstract

Nanci Pangemanan, NIRM 23020022 dengan judul Tesis “ Dampak Phubbing Terhadap Karakter Sosial Pemuda di Gereja Toraja Jemaat Syalom Pasangkalua”. Penelitian ini meneliti pengaruh perilaku phubbing terhadap karakter sosial pemuda di Gereja Toraja Jemaat Syalom Pasangkalua. Menggunakan metode kualitatif, data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dengan majelis gereja, pemuda, jemaat, dan masyarakat sekitar, serta observasi partisipatif. Temuan menunjukkan phubbing, yaitu mengabaikan orang lain demi perangkat digital, merajalela, bahkan selama ibadah. Hal ini berdampak negatif pada kualitas komunikasi, empati, partisipasi dalam kegiatan gereja, dan semangat kebersamaan. Phubbing menciptakan individualisme yang bertentangan dengan nilai-nilai kekeluargaan dan gotong royong. Para responden memandang phubbing sebagai perilaku yang merusak relasi sosial dan spiritual. Meskipun gereja belum memiliki program khusus, terdapat upaya untuk meningkatkan interaksi langsung. Penelitian ini menyoroti perlunya intervensi gereja untuk mengatasi phubbing dan membangun komunitas yang lebih sehat. Kata Kunci: Phubbing, Karakter Sosial, Pemuda Kristen. Abstract Nanci Pangemanan, NIRM 23020022, Tesis Title “The Impact Of Phubbing On The Sosial Of Youth In The Toraja Church Of Congregation Syalom Pasangkalua”. This study examines the influence of phubbing on the social character of youth within the Toraja Church, Jemaat Syalom Pasangkalua. Employing a qualitative approach, data were gathered through interviews with church leaders, youth, congregants, and community members, supplemented by participant observation. Findings reveal a widespread prevalence of phubbing the act of ignoring others in favor of digital devices—even during worship services. This behavior negatively impacts communication quality, empathy, participation in church activities, and community spirit. Phubbing fosters individualism, contradicting traditional Toraja values of family and community. Respondents perceive phubbing as detrimental to social and spiritual relationships. While the church currently lacks specific programs, efforts are underway to promote face-to-face interaction. This research highlights the need for church-led interventions to address phubbing and cultivate a healthier community. Keywords: Phubbing, Sosial Character, Chiristian Youth.
