Abstract

Kata kunci: misi gereja, tradisi ma’nene’, Gereja Toraja, Jemaat Be’do, dan kontekstualisasi misi. Abstract This study examines the role of the Toraja Churs, Be’do Congregation, Baruppu’ Classis, in conducting church missions within the context of the ma’nene’ tradition, aunique ancestral honoring ritual in Toraja culture. The background of this research highlights the significant potential of ma’nene’ as a platform for church evangelisme, which, however, remains underutilized. In the Be’do congregation, the church’s involvement has been largely limited to meal prayers, with No. deeper missional approach integreted into the tradition. This situation raises the need to explore how the church can incorporate Gospel values into local traditions without diminishing the cultural essence of ma’nene’. The research employs aqualtative method with a descriptive approach. Date were collacted through in-depth interviews with church leaders and members, direct observation during ma’nene’ rituals, and analysis of relevant documents. The findings reveal that although ma’nene’ offers opportunities fpr Gospel proclamation, its implementation remains constrained due to the absence of requests from participating families for greater church involvement. Additionally, challenges aries in harmonizing cultural values with the church’s mission. This study recommend developing amore contextual and participatory missional strategy, enabling ma’nene’ to serve as an effective medium for church ministry and evangelism. Keywords: church mission, ma’nene’ tradition, Toraja Church, Be’do Congregation, mission contextualization.
