Abstract

Ma'pasilaga tedong is one of the unique Toraja cultures and is only carried out at death ceremonies. Along with the tirnes, the buffaloes that are fought no longer end up in the hands of the butchers, but specifically to be pitted and cared for painstakingly by children, teenagers and adults. They concentrate on taking care of the fighting buffalo, so that the main duties and responaibilities are often neglected. It's a sharne that they only care for buffalo belonging to the nobility or the wealthy with meager wages. This paper uses qualitative research with a narrative approach, the author collects field data through observation and interviews, then it is analyzed using the concept of liberative social theology according to Yewangoe. From the results of this analysis, the subjects were motivated to raise fighting buffalo and participate in tedong ma'pasilaga activities because economically they received wages, socially created relationships with all parties, and psychologically they got pleasure. The paradigm that God freed them from economic and social problems is also a reason to continue to be in the bullfighting cycle. Responding to this condition, Yewangoe with his liberative social theology concept calls for every niember of the community (the pangambi') to experience genuine recovery and empowerment, which is hoped to niaterialize through His church.
