Abstract

Kata Kunci: cross-textual; Kejadian 18:1-15; kehadiran Allah, Theophany, ma’bugi’   ABSTRACT This writing is based on the understanding that arises in society and church members about the presence of God, where God's presence is only understood as transcendent known through His creation and believed to be a giver of blessings, even in the belief of Aluk Todolo followers. To address this issue, this writing aims to bring together the Bible text Genesis 18:1-15 and the cultural text of the ma’bugi ritual in Toraja with the goal of understanding the presence of God. The method used is Cross-Textual Hermeneutics which seeks to find similarities and differences between the two texts, whether it be appreciative similarities, enriching similarities, or irreconcilable similarities. The results show that each of the two texts has its own uniqueness in understanding the presence of God, thus it is understood that the presence of God is not only transcendent but also manifests through the physical appearance of God (theophany) as well as through symbols, spiritual experiences that show variations in the manifestation of God's presence influenced by their respective cultural contexts. Keywords: cross-textual; Genesis 18:1-15; presence of God, Theophany, ma’bugi’
