Abstract

Ma’ta’da is one of the ritual practices of ancestral beliefs in Toraja. The ritual is believed to be one of the means to have a relationship with the spirits of ancestors by offering sacrifices. Therefore, this ritual is a form of worship to the spirits of ancestors. The author sees that the ritual is not in line with the Christian faith, because in Christianity only worship God. The Westminster Creed is a form of formulation of basic biblical teachings in Christianity, especially for the reformed. In the Westminster confession of faith there is also an explanation of religious worship. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods, by explaining Ma’ta’da and Westminster's confession of faith in religious worship. The data were obtained by indirect observations, interviews with indigenous leaders and also related literature. The results of the study show how Westminster's confessional views on the worship of Ma’ta’da rituals are not in line and firmly say they cannot be applied to the principles of the Christian faith. Keywords: Westminster Confession of Faith, Worship, Ma'ta'da
