Abstract
The social structure within rural communities often results in individuals being placed in advantageous positions due to their status within the village community or specific groups. This directly elevates their social standing and that of their families, making them more respected than members of the general community around them. In many cases, this becomes a benchmark for someone to attain leadership roles both at the regional level and within the village or specific group settings, as exemplified in Lembang Marinding, Mengkendek Subdistrict, Tana Toraja Regency. In the preparation of this thesis, the author decided to conduct research using a Qualitative approach and the Descriptive research type. The primary objective of this research is to illustrate the formation of the social structure in Lembang Marinding, an area within Mengkendek Subdistrict, Tana Toraja Regency. Additionally, this research aims to analyze the impact of this social structure on the operating leadership system in Lembang Marinding. In this context, the author employs the theory of elites as a foundation to analyze the influence of the social structure on the leadership system. Emphasis is placed on how social stratification plays a role in shaping the dynamics of leadership in Lembang Marinding. This study also adopts the theory of power as an additional guide in understanding the relationship between societal layers and leadership patterns within the region. Over time, this stratification continues to play a role in community life, perpetuating the social stratification within leadership, which remains dominated by the aristocracy (Tana’ Bulaan). This leads to the emergence of autocratic forms of leadership. The Kapuangan criteria serve as prerequisites for prospective leaders/head of the village to assume leadership positions. In analyzing the situation in the Lembang Marinding community, the author employs a descriptive research approach to depict the impact of social stratification within the context of leadership in that region.
