Abstract
ABSTRACT This research begins with the issue of animal cruelty practiced in the Ma'Pattang tradition in Perangian Hamlet, Rinding Allo District. The purpose of this study is to explain the meaning of Deuteronomy 22:6–7 and analyze its implications for the implementation of the Ma'Pattang tradition in an effort to build ecological awareness in the community. This research uses a qualitative method with a hermeneutic approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation, then analyzed using historical-grammatical methods on the text of Deuteronomy 22:6–7. The results show that humans are permitted to utilize nature to meet their needs, but must do so responsibly and without damaging the sustainability of creation. The Ma'Pattang tradition, which currently tends to be a form of entertainment, needs to be reoriented to the value of wise use. Deuteronomy 22:6–7 emphasizes humans' responsibility as God's mandate to preserve animals and the environment as a form of obedience to God. Keywords: Hermeneutics of Deuteronomy 22:6–7, Ma'Pattang, animal cruelty, ecological awareness.
