Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to synthesize the meaning of warding off misfortune (tolak bala) in the Ma’sambayang Rammun Tradition with the Christian faith perspective in the Buku Pongo’ Congregation. The main research problem addressed in this study is how the meaning of warding off misfortune in the Ma’sambayang Rammun Tradition is synthesized with the Christian faith in the Buku Pongo’ Congregation. This research employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data analysis was conducted using Stephen Bevans’ Synthetic Model of contextual theology. The findings reveal that misfortune (bala) is understood as events or conditions that threaten the lives of humans, animals, and plants. The Ma’sambayang Rammun Tradition, which originated from the Mangrompo Bamba ritual, continues to be preserved as a cultural heritage; however, its meaning has undergone transformation following the introduction of Christianity. The synthesis is reflected in the shift of the orientation of protection from deata to God, while the values of togetherness, solidarity, mutual cooperation, and fellowship are maintained. This tradition is understood as a means of expressing faith, seeking God's protection, and strengthening relationships among congregation members within the life of the church. Keywords: Christian Faith, Ma'sambayang Rammun Tradition, Rejection of Calamity, Stephen Bevans' Synthesis Model.
