Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis relasi gereja dan pemerintah dalam praktik budaya lokal di Lembang Saloso berdasarkan Perspektif Teologis Andreas A. Yewangoe. Relasi antara gereja dan pemerintah merupakan aspek penting dalam kehidupan masyarakat karena keduanya memiliki tanggung jawab bersama dalam menciptakan keteraturan, keadilan dan kesejahteraan sosial. dalam konteks masyarakat Toraja yang masih terus melestarikan budaya, hubungan tersebut tidak dapat dipisahkan dari pengaruh nilai-nilai adat yang terus hidup dan berkembang di tengah masyarakat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi. Data di peroleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi terhadap informan yang terdiri dari pendeta, majelis gereja. Tokoh adat, pemerintah setempat, dan masyarakat di Lembang Saloso. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis melalui tahap reduks data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa relasi gereja dan pemerintah di Lembang Saloso pada umumnya berjalan secara harmonis melalui kerja sama dalam berbagai kegiatan sosial, keagamaan, maupun kegiatan budaya. Tiga lembaga tersebut saling mendukung dalam pelaksanaan kegiatan masyarakat, namun dalam beberapa hal relasi tersebut masih menghadapi tantangan ketika gereja menjalankan fungsinya profetisnya dengan menolak praktik-praktik yang bertentangan dengan nilai iman Kristen. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa budaya masih memiliki posisi pentingf dalam kehidupan masyarakat, meskipun beberapa pemaknaan budaya telah mengalami penyesuaian seiring berkembangnya ajaran Kristen. Berdasarkan perspektif Andreas A. Yewangoe, relasi gereja dan pemerintah seharusnya dibangun dalam semangat kerja sama yang saling menghormati tanpa adanya dominasi satu pihak terhadap pihak lainnya. Gereja dipanggil untuk hadir secara aktif dalam kehidupan publik, sedangkan pemerintah memiliki tanggung jawab untuk menciptakan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa relasi gereja dan pemerintah di Lembang Saloso telah menunjukkan bentuk kemitraan yang konstruktif dalam kehidupan masyarakat, meskipun masih memerlukan penguatan dialog dan kerja sama dalam menghadapi berbagai tantangan sosial dan budaya yang berkembang. ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the relationship between the church and the government in the practice of local culture in Lembang Saloso based on the theological perspective of Andreas A. Yewangoe. The relationship between the church and the government is an important aspect of community life because both institutions share responsibility for creating social order, justice, and public welfare. In the context of the Torajan community, which continues to preserve its cultural traditions, this relationship cannot be separated from the influence of customary values that remain alive and continue to develop within society. This research employed a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving informants consisting of pastors, church elders, traditional leaders, local government officials, and members of the community in Lembang Saloso. The collected data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the relationship between the church and the government in Lembang Saloso generally functions harmoniously through cooperation in various social, religious, and cultural activities. These institutions support one another in carrying out community programs and activities. However, the relationship still faces challenges when the church exercises its prophetic role by opposing practices that are considered contrary to Christian values and beliefs. The study also finds that culture continues to hold an important position in the life of the community, although some cultural meanings and interpretations have undergone adjustments in line with the development of Christian teachings. Based on the perspective of Andreas A. Yewangoe, the relationship between the church and the government should be built upon a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation without domination by either party. The church is called to participate actively in public life, while the government bears responsibility for promoting the welfare of society. Therefore, this study concludes that the relationship between the in community life, although further strengthening of dialogue and cooperation is still needed to address the various social and cultural challenges that continue to emerge.
