Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to examine the implementation of the Ma’ Palessu’ tradition as a traditional healing practice and to reflect on its theological meaning through the perspective of contextual theology using the anthropological model among the Kambuno community. This research employed a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving traditional leaders, practitioners, and community members who had experienced Ma’ Palessu’ treatment. The findings reveal that Ma’ Palessu’ is a hereditary healing tradition believed to support recovery through the use of natural ingredients, specific rituals, and community participation. Beyond its healing function, the tradition embodies cultural values, togetherness, social concern, and the preservation of ancestral heritage. From the perspective of contextual theology’s anthropological model, Ma’ Palessu’ reflects values of love, solidarity, and care for others that are consistent with Christian teachings. Keywords: Contextual Theology, Ma’ Palessu’, Traditional Healing, Anthropological Model, Kambuno Community.
