Abstract
ABSTRACT Akhsa (2020229469); Faculty of Theology and Christian Sociology; Christian Theology Study Program; State Christian Institute of Religion (IAKN) Toraja. Title: “An Ecotheological Analysis of Rongkong River Pollution in Sabbang Village”. This study aims to analyze the pollution of the Rongkong River from an ecotheological perspective, as well as to reveal the root causes of the problem, theological views, and human responsibility toward God’s creation. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through literature review, field observations, and interviews with village officials, church leaders, and local residents. The data were analyzed with reference to Robert P. Borrong’s concept of ecotheology and biblical foundations. The findings show that pollution is caused by the perception of the river as a convenient disposal site, low environmental awareness, and long-standing habits passed down through generations. Although the river is recognized as a source of life and a sacred creation, this belief has not been translated into action. From an ecotheological standpoint, this represents a trialateral imbalance in the relationship between God, humanity, and nature, as well as a failure to fulfill the mandate to care for creation (Genesis 2:15). Pollution is not merely an environmental issue, but also a moral, ethical, and spiritual concern. Addressing it requires collaboration between the church, village government, and active community participation to restore and preserve the river as a gift from God. Keywords: Ecotheology, Pollution, Sabbang, River, Responsibility.
