Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the understanding of the Christian community in Tawalian District towards the Diparraukan tradition and the reasons why this tradition is still maintained, through a contextual theology approach using Stephen B. Bevans' synthesis model that dialogues the current cultural context with the Holy Scriptures and the Christian faith tradition. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach; data were collected through interviews and literature studies, then tested for validity using triangulation techniques. The results of the analysis show that Diparraukan is understood as a customary mechanism for resolving incest cases that is reinterpreted through the values of humanity, responsibility, child protection, deliberation, and restoration of communal life. Through the dialogue of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis, it was found that Mamasa culture and Christian faith enrich each other without eliminating each other, so that the Christian community of Tawalian continues to live the ancestral tradition without losing their faith identity. This research is expected to enrich the study of contextual theology in Indonesia and become a reference for the church and society in responding to local cultural traditions in a dialogical, contextual manner, and still grounded in the Christian faith. Keywords: Diparraukan, Contextual Theology, Synthesis Model, Stephen B. Bevans, Tawalian Christian Community.
