Abstract

Pemahaman tentang misi gereja sering kali dipersempit hanya pada kegiatan penginjilan, sehingga berbagai bentuk pelayanan yang dilakukan gereja belum dipahami sebagai bagian dari missio Dei. Permasalahan inilah yang melatarbelakangi penelitian terhadap Yohanes 9:1–6 untuk menemukan pemahaman teologis tentang missio Dei serta implikasinya bagi Gereja Toraja Jemaat Meriba Surruk dalam melaksanakan misi Allah di tengah dunia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemahaman teologis tentang missio Dei berdasarkan Yohanes 9:1–6 dan menjelaskan implikasinya bagi gereja dalam melaksanakan misi Allah. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan hermeneutik terhadap teks Yohanes 9:1–6, yang didukung oleh studi pustaka, observasi, dan wawancara terhadap pendeta, majelis, dan warga jemaat Gereja Toraja Jemaat Meriba Surruk. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa missio Dei merupakan karya Allah yang dinyatakan melalui Yesus Kristus di tengah realitas penderitaan manusia. Yohanes 9:1–6 menegaskan bahwa penderitaan tidak selalu merupakan akibat dosa, melainkan dapat menjadi ruang bagi dinyatakannya pekerjaan-pekerjaan Allah. Gereja bukan pemilik misi, melainkan partisipan yang diundang untuk terlibat dalam misi Allah melalui pelayanan yang responsif terhadap kebutuhan manusia. Oleh karena itu, Gereja Toraja Jemaat Meriba Surruk perlu membangun pemahaman yang lebih utuh tentang missio Dei sehingga seluruh warga jemaat dapat mengambil bagian secara aktif dalam melaksanakan misi Allah di tengah dunia. ABSTRACT Understanding of the church's mission is often limited to evangelism, resulting in various forms of church service not being understood as part of the missio Dei. This issue underlies this study of John 9:1–6 to discover a theological understanding of missio Dei and its implications for the Meriba Surruk Congregation of the Toraja Church in carrying out God's mission in the world. This study aims to describe the theological understanding of missio Dei based on John 9:1–6 and explain its implications for the church in carrying out God's mission. The method used is qualitative research with a hermeneutic approach to the text of John 9:1–6, supported by literature review, observation, and interviews with pastors, council members, and members of the Meriba Surruk Congregation of the Toraja Church. The results show that missio Dei is God's work revealed through Jesus Christ amidst the reality of human suffering. John 9:1–6 emphasizes that suffering is not always the result of sin, but can be a space for the manifestation of God's works. The church is not the owner of the mission, but rather a participant invited to engage in God's mission through responsive service to human needs. Therefore, the Meriba Surruk Congregation of the Toraja Church needs to develop a more comprehensive understanding of missio Dei so that all members of the congregation can actively participate in carrying out God's mission in the world.
