Abstract
ABSTRACT This study is motivated by the expansion of oil palm plantations at the expense of forest areas in Karossa District, Central Mamuju Regency, which has resulted in various ecological impacts. The expansion of oil palm plantations has led to the conversion of forest areas, including protected forests. This study aims to analyze the attitudes and responses of the Ebenhaezer Kadaila Congregation of the Toraja Mamasa Church toward oil palm plantation expansion from the perspective of Leonardo Boff’s ecological thought. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. The findings reveal that members of the congregation experience a dilemma between economic needs and ecological responsibility. This dilemma stems from structural injustice that leaves congregation members and the local community with limited alternatives other than cultivating oil palm. The resolution of this dilemma begins with fostering ecological spirituality, developing sustainable economic alternatives, advocating for economic justice, halting large-scale land clearing, and undertaking environmental rehabilitation efforts. Keywords: Ecotheology, Leonardo Boff, Oil Palm Plantations, Deforestation.
