Abstract
Kemiskinan masih menjadi salah satu persoalan yang dihadapi oleh sebagian anggota Gereja Toraja Jemaat Kayuosing. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis implementasi misi pembebasan dalam peran Gereja Toraja Jemaat Kayuosing terhadap upaya penanggulangan kemiskinan berdasarkan perspektif teologi pembebasan Gustavo Gutierrez. Fokus utama penelitian adalah melihat bentuk pelayanan gereja terhadap jemaat yang mengalami kemiskinan serta relevansinya dengan konsep pembebasan yang menekankan keberpihakan kepada kaum miskin. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan studi pustaka. Informan penelitian terdiri atas pendeta, majelis gereja, dan anggota jemaat yang mengalami keterbatasan ekonomi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemiskinan di Jemaat Kayuosing tidak hanya disebabkan oleh faktor ekonomi, tetapi juga dipengaruhi oleh rendahnya tingkat pendidikan, keterampilan, dan kemampuan mengelola sumber daya yang tersedia. Gereja Toraja Jemaat Kayuosing telah berupaya menjalankan pelayanan kepada kaum miskin melalui diakonia karitatif berupa pemberian sembako, kebutuhan pokok, dan bantuan rumah tinggal. Pelayanan tersebut menunjukkan keberpihakan gereja kepada kaum miskin sebagai wujud kehadiran Allah yang peduli terhadap penderitaan manusia. Namun, pelayanan yang dilakukan masih bersifat karitatif dan belum sepenuhnya mengarah pada pemberdayaan yang mampu membebaskan jemaat dari lingkaran kemiskinan. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa gereja perlu mengembangkan pelayanan yang lebih transformatif melalui pemberdayaan ekonomi dan pendidikan agar misi pembebasan dapat terwujud secara lebih nyata dalam kehidupan jemaat. Kata kunci: misi pembebasan, kemiskinan, gereja toraja, Gustavo Gutierrez. ABSTRACT Poverty remains one of the major challenges faced by some members of the Toraja Church, Kayuosing Congregation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the mission of liberation in the role of the Toraja Church, Kayuosing Congregation, in efforts to alleviate poverty based on the liberation theology perspective of Gustavo Gutiérrez. The primary focus of this research is to examine the forms of church ministry directed toward congregation members experiencing poverty and their relevance to the concept of liberation, which emphasizes a preferential option for the poor. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research method, with data collected through interviews, observations, and literature review. The research participants consisted of pastors, church elders, and congregation members facing economic hardship. The findings reveal that poverty within the Kayuosing Congregation is not solely caused by economic factors but is also influenced by low levels of education, limited skills, and inadequate capacity to manage available resources. The Toraja Church, Kayuosing Congregation, has sought to serve the poor through charitable diaconal ministries, including the provision of food assistance, basic necessities, and housing support. These ministries demonstrate the church’s commitment to the poor as an expression of God's presence and concern for human suffering. However, the services provided remain largely charitable in nature and have not yet fully developed into empowerment-oriented programs capable of liberating congregation members from the cycle of poverty. The findings of this study indicate that the church needs to develop more transformative ministries through economic and educational empowerment so that the mission of liberation can be realized more concretely in the lives of its members.
