Abstract
ABSTRACT This study was motivated by the use of cell phones as a substitute for printed Bibles during worship services at the Toraja Mamasa Church, Buntu Rea Congregation. The purpose of this study is to analyze the Christian ethical perspective on the use of cell phones during worship services. The method used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach through interviews with the pastor, elders, and congregation members. The data were analyzed based on Heidi A. Campbell’s concept of “Digital Religion,” the teachings of John Calvin, and Christian ethics. The results of the study indicate that the use of cell phones is acceptable because it helps congregants access digital Bibles and other spiritual materials. The use of cell phones does not diminish the sacredness of God’s Word, but it can disrupt the sacredness of worship if used for activities unrelated to worship. Therefore, the use of cell phones requires respect, focus, and self-control. Keywords: Christian Ethics, Cell Phones, Sacredness of Worship, Toraja Mamasa Church, Buntu Rea Congregation.
