Abstract
Penelitian ini berjudul "Analisi s Makna Simbol Passura’ Balun Tomate dalam Perspektif Teori Simbolik Viktor Turner di Lembang Burasia Kecamatan Bittuang". Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dan menginterpretasikan makna simbolik yang terkandung dalam upacara Passura’ Balun Tomate, sebuah ritual tradisional yang masih dilestarikan oleh masyarakat di Lembang Burasia, Kecamatan Bittuang, Kabupaten Tana Toraja. Dalam kajian ini, peneliti menggunakan teori simbolik Viktor Turner yang menekankan pentingnya simbol-simbol budaya dalam struktur sosial dan proses liminalitas. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan naratif deskriptif, melalui observasi langsung, wawancara mendalam, dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Passura’ Balun Tomate tidak hanya merupakan ritual penghormatan kepada arwah leluhur, tetapi juga sarat akan simbol-simbol yang merefleksikan nilai-nilai spiritual, struktur sosial, dan identitas budaya masyarakat Toraja. Simbol-simbol dalam ritual ini memainkan peran penting dalam memperkuat kohesi sosial dan mewariskan nilai-nilai leluhur kepada generasi penerus. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi terhadap pelestarian budaya lokal serta memperkaya kajian antropologi simbolik. ABSTRACT This study is entitled "Analisa s Simbol Passura' Balun Tomate dalam Perspektif Theory Simbolik Viktor Turner di Lembang Burasia Kecamatan Bittuang". The purpose of this study is to analyze and interpret the symbolic meaning contained in the Passura' Balun Tomate ceremony, a traditional ritual that is still preserved by the community in Lembang Burasia, Kecamatan Bittuang, Tana Toraja Regency. In this study, the researcher uses Viktor Turner's symbolic theory which emphasizes the importance of cultural symbols in social structures and liminality processes. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive narrative approach, through direct observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The results of the study show that Passura' Balun Tomate is not only a ritual of respect for ancestral spirits, but is also full of symbols that reflect the spiritual values, social structures, and cultural identities of the Toraja people. The symbols in this ritual play an important role in strengthening social cohesion and passing on ancestral values to the next generation. This research is expected to contribute to the preservation of local culture and enrich the study of symbolic anthropology. Keyword: passura’ balun tomate symbol, symbolic theory Viktor Turner.
