Abstract
ABSTRACT This study aims to examine theologically-historically the experience of the Jawi Congregation in Pongsamelung Village who experienced stigmatization as part of the PKI group after the 1965 incident. This congregation is a Christian community of Javanese ethnicity who previously had an Islamic background, then converted and built a life of faith in a Muslim-majority area. This study uses a historical qualitative approach and the social identity theory of Henri Tajfel and John Turner to analyze the framing process and the formation of social identity. The results show that despite experiencing pressure and marginalization, the Jawi Congregation formed internal solidarity and interpreted their suffering as part of Christian spirituality. Theological reflection shows the importance of interpreting suffering as participation in the cross of Christ, as well as the need for contextual theology that sides with justice and reconciliation. Keywords: Jawi Congregation, PKI, social identity, contextual theology, stigmatization, church history.
