Abstract
ABSTRACT "Christian Business Ethics and Plato’s Tripartite Soul Philosophy in Cocoa Trading in Hoyane Village, Seko" This paper is motivated by the unequal cocoa trading practices between farmers and motorcycle transporters (ojek drivers) in Hoyane Village, Seko. The purpose of this paper is to examine cocoa trading in Hoyane Village from the perspective of Christian business ethics and Plato’s tripartite soul philosophy. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The findings reveal a disparity that disadvantages the farmers. Ojek drivers purchase cocoa using volume measurements (liters) that sometimes exceed standard limits and resell it based on weight (kilograms), resulting in unfairness. Based on Christian business ethics, farmers have practiced values of love, honesty, justice, and service, whereas ojek drivers have not fully applied the principles of honesty and justice in their transactions. From the perspective of Plato’s tripartite soul, farmers tend to emphasize logistikon (reason) and thumos (spirit) in maintaining integrity and justice. In contrast, ojek drivers are more dominated by epithymia (appetitive soul), focusing on personal gain without rational and moral control. The role of the government still leans toward epithymia, fulfilling practical or short-term needs, and is weak in exercising logistikon and thumos in upholding justice. In Christian ethics, the government has not fully carried out just and equitable service. Keywords: Christian Business Ethics, Plato’s Tripartite Soul, Farmers, Ojek Drivers.
