Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis secara kritis tentang kepercayaan Pairan Tomate, sebuah kepercayaan lokal yang berkaitan dengan roh orang yang telah mati, serta implikasinya terhadap pemahaman umat tentang kematian di Gereja Toraja Mamasa, khususnya di Jemaat Kirak. Pairan Tomate adalah pemali atau larangan yang dilakukan selama masa berduka. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif, dengan melibat teknik wawancara, dan tinjauan pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun kepercayaan pairan tomate masih dilakukan oleh sebagian warga jemaat, pemahaman yang terdapat di dalamnya tidak sejalan dengan ajaran iman Kristen, mengenai kehidupan setelah kematian. Karena itu, dibutuhkan pendekatan pastoral dan teologis yang kontekstual agar kepercayaan ini dapat dimaknai ulang secara benar dalam terang iman Kristen. Kata kunci: Analisis Kritis, Kematian, Pairan Tomate ABSTRACT The purpose of this study is to critically analyze the Pairan Tomate belief, a local belief related to the spirits of the deceased, and its implications for the congregation's understanding of death in the Toraja Mamasa Church, particularly in the Kirak Congregation. Pairan Tomate is a prohibition or prohibition carried out during the period of mourning. This study used qualitative research methods, involving interview techniques and a literature review. The results show that although the Pairan Tomate belief is still practiced by some members of the congregation, the understanding contained in it is not in line with the teachings of the Christian faith, regarding life after death. Therefore, a contextual pastoral and theological approach is needed so that this belief can be reinterpreted correctly in the light of the Christian faith.
