Abstract

Supervised by Dr. Calvin Sholla Rupa, M.Th as the first supervisor and Dr. Yosef Patandung, M.Pd as the second supervisor. This study examines the impacts of deforestation caused by oil palm cultivation on the environment and the lives of the congregation in Polongaan Village, Tobadak District, and formulates the role of ecological liturgy as a theological approach in responding to the ecological crisis. The method used is descriptive qualitative through observation, interviews, and documentary studies. The research findings indicate that deforestation causes environmental damage, socio-economic inequality, and weakens community solidarity. The low level of ecological awareness within the church is attributed to the lack of integration of creation theology into worship. Ecological liturgy is viewed as a contextual pathway to fostering an environmentally conscious faith. The application of ecological liturgy, including sustainable agricultural practices such as intercropping, is a concrete form of faith that is responsible for creation. True liturgy does not only take place in church buildings, but is manifested in actions that glorify God through care for nature, praying with the earth, and living in harmony with creation. Thus, liturgy means actively living to preserve and care for the environment as part of worshiping the Creator. Keywords: Deforestation, Palm Oil, Ecological Liturgy,
