Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji secara hermeneutik, mengikut Yesus berdasarkan Injil Matius 8:18-22 dan relevansinya bagi orang kristen masa kini melalui pendekatan hermeneutik, penelitian ini berangkat dari permasalahan cara Yesus merespon secara berbeda kepada ahli taurat dan kepada murid lainnya mengenai hal mengikuti-Nya. Dengan metode kualitatif melalui pendekatan hermeneutik lebih tepatnya metode gramatikal-historis, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa mengikuti Yesus menuntut komitmen total, kesiapan meninggalkan kenyamanan duniawi, serta kesediaan untuk mengutamakan panggilan Allah di atas segala hal lainnya. Relevansi dari ajaran ini bagi orang Kristen masa kini adalah pentingnya hidup dalam ketaatan, kerelaan berkorban, dan kesetiaan dalam menghadapi dalam menghadapi tantangan kehidupan sebagai murid Kristus di tengah dunia yang terus berubah. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam mengenai makna mengikut Yesus serta mendorong penerapan nilai-nilai Kekristenan secara nyata dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa mengikut Yesus bukan sekedar komitmen lahiriah, melainkan sebuah keputusan eksistensial yang melibatkan penyerahan hidup secara utuh. Kata Kunci: Hermeneutik, Mengikut Yesus, Matius 8:18-22, Orang Kristen Masa Kini, Relevansi ABSTRACT This study hermeneutically examines following Jesus, based on the Gospel of Matthew 8:18-22, and its relevance for Christians today. This study begins with the question of how Jesus responded differently to the scribes and other disciples regarding following Him. Using a qualitative method through a hermeneutic approach, more specifically a grammatical-historical method, this study finds that following Jesus requires total commitment, a readiness to abandon worldly comforts, and a willingness to prioritize God's calling above all else. The relevance of this teaching for Christians today lies in the importance of living in obedience, self-sacrifice, and faithfulness in facing the challenges of life as Christ's disciples in an ever-changing world. This study is expected to provide a deeper understanding of the meaning of following Jesus and encourage the practical application of Christian values in everyday life. Therefore, this study concludes that following Jesus is not merely an outward commitment, but an existential decision that involves a complete surrender of one's life.
