Abstract
Merianti Rama Karuru, menyusun skripsi ini dengan judul “Analisis Teologis Sosio-Kultural Tradisi Sipakendek Di Gereja Toraja Jemaat Tiromanda.” Jurusan Teologi, Fakultas Teologi dan Sosiologi Kristen, Institut Agama Kristen Negeri (IAKN) Toraja, Di bawa bimbingan Dr. Sulaeman Manguling, M.Th. dan Hardi Saputra, M.Th. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna teologis sosio-kultural dari tradisi sipakendek di Jemaat Tiromanda, Klasis Sasi Utara. Sipakendek adalah warisan dari aluk todolo yang kemudian masih dipercaya oleh masyarakat Tiromanda yang dianggap sebagai proses pembersihan diri bagi janda duda yang telah ditinggal mati oleh pasangannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi langsung, serta studi literatur yang terkait dengan tradisi dan kebudayaan Toraja. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sipakendek memiliki nilai teologis yang dapat diselaraskan dengan ajaran kekristenan. Gereja Toraja Jemaat Tiromanda mendukung tradisi ini selama tidak bertentangan dengan nilai-nilai Alkitab. Hal ini sejalan dengan teori Cliffort Geertz dalam makna simbolik yang menekankan bahwa tindakan budaya sebagai sistem makna yang ditafsirkan oleh masyarakat seperti tradisi sipakendek bisa dipahami sebagai teks budaya yang sarat makna. Abstract Merianti Rama Karuru, compiled this thesis with the title "Socio-Cultural Theological Analysis of the Sipakendek Tradition in the Toraja Church of the Tiromanda Congregation." Department of Theology, Faculty of Christian Theology and Sociology, State Christian Institute (IAKN) Toraja, Under the guidance of Dr. Sulaeman Manguling, M.Th. and Hardi Saputra, M.Th. This study aims to analyze the socio-cultural theological meaning of the sipakendek tradition in the Tiromanda Congregation, North Sasi Classis. Sipakendek is a legacy of aluk todolo which is still believed by the Tiromanda community which is considered a self-cleansing process for widows and widowers who have been left by their partners. This study uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and literature studies related to Toraja traditions and culture. The results of the study indicate that sipakendek has theological values that can be aligned with Christian teachings. The Toraja Church of the Tiromanda Congregation supports this tradition as long as it does not conflict with Biblical values. This is in line with Cliffort Geertz's theory in symbolic meaning which emphasizes that cultural actions as a system of meaning interpreted by society such as the sipakendek tradition can be understood as a cultural text that is full of meaning.
