Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna manusia baru dalam Efesus 4:21-24 menggunakan pendekatan reader response dan implikasinya bagi mahasiswa Teologi IAKN Toraja. Pada penelitian ini, penulis menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan tiga teknik pengumpulan data yaitu studi pustaka, observasi dan wawancara. Penulis juga memakai pendekatan reader response sebagai suatu metode tafsir yang memungkinkan terjadinya interaksi antara teks dengan pembaca, maksudnya bahwa pembaca dapat menginterpretasikan teks berdasarkan pengalaman hidup dan merealisasikannya. Penulis melakukan penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh realita bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa Teologi IAKN Toraja sebagai calon pelayan Tuhan, belum menampakkan keteladanan sebagai orang percaya bagi orang lain. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian penulis terhadap response dari 9 mahasiswa Teologi IAKN Toraja, disimpulkan bahwa manusia baru merupakan suatu respon yang dilakukan oleh orang percaya atas karya penyelamatan Allah di dalam Yesus Kristus. Dalam diri setiap orang percaya sebagai manusia baru, Roh Kudus bekerja secara terus-menerus agar cara hidup mereka sesuai kehendak Allah. Beberapa ciri manusia baru dalam Efesus 4:21-24 menurut para pembaca, seperti memuliakan Allah melalui bakat yang dimiliki, menjalin relasi intim dengan Allah dengan tekun beribadah dan berdoa, mencintai diri sendiri, bertanggung jawab, tidak iri hati, menolong sesama, mengasihi dan berbicara baik kepada orang lain. Kata kunci: manusia baru, reader response. ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the meaning of the new man in Ephesians 4:21-24 using the reader response approach and its implications for IAKN Toraja Theology students. In this study, the author uses a qualitative approach with three data collection techniques, namely literature study, observation, and interviews. The author also uses the reader response approach as an interpretation method that allows interaction between the text and the reader, meaning that the reader can interpret the text based on life experiences and realize it. The author conducted this research based on the reality that most IAKN Toraja Theology students as prospective servants of God have not shown exemplary behavior as believers for others. Based on the results of the author's research on the responses of 9 IAKN Toraja Theology students, it is concluded that the new man is a response made by believers to God's work of salvation in Jesus Christ. In every believer as a new man, the Holy Spirit works continuously so that their way of life is by God's will. According to readers, some of the characteristics of the new man in Ephesians 4:21-24 are glorifying God through the talents he has, establishing an intimate relationship with God by diligently worshiping and praying, loving himself responsibly, not being jealous, helping others, loving and speaking well to others.
