Abstract
ABSTRACT This research analyzes the hermeneutic cross-textual reading approach to the narrative of Acts 2:1-13 and the presence of the Spirit in the Aluk Todolo belief in Toraja. The hermeneutic cross-textual reading approach allows for comparison and analysis of texts from different traditions to gain a deeper understanding of the similarities, differences, and contradictions between the two. Acts 2:1-13 depicts the Pentecost event, where the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles, enabling them to speak in different languages. On the other hand, the Aluk Todolo belief in Toraja involves the phenomenon of kandeatan, where spiritual entities descend and inhabit an individual's body, providing messages or guidance to the community. Despite differing contexts and details, both phenomena contain similar elements, highlighting transformative experiences where the divine Spirit is present and empowers individuals to speak or act beyond their natural abilities. This research employs the cross-textual hermeneutic reading approach to understand how the concepts in Acts and the Aluk Todolo belief provide deeper insights into spiritual and transformative experiences transcending different cultures and traditions. Keywords: hermeneutics, cross-textual reading, Acts 2:1-13, Spirit presence, aluk todolo belief.
