Abstract

ABSTRAK Tulisan ini dilatarbelakangi oleh munculnya salah satu budaya popular akibat perkembangan zaman yaitu flexing yang membuat para pelakunya memamerkan kekayaan atau segala yang dimilikinya tanpa mempertimbangkan keadaan dirinya, motivasi dan akibatnya. Hal ini juga berdampak bagi kehidupan gereja khususnya bagi para pemuda sebagai bagian dan pengguna terbanyak dari perkembangan zaman khususnya media sosial. Oleh karena itu, tulisan ini melihat fenomena flexing yang terjadi di kalangan PPGT Klasis Makale Selatan yang dianalisis secara teologis dengan memanfaatkan teori sophrosune atau keugaharian. Metode penelitian yang dipakai dalam tulisan ini ialah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi di mana data yang dipakai dalam tulisan ini bersumber dari hasil wawancara, observasi serta studi kepustakaan. Hasilnya memperlihatkan bahwa: pertama, fenomena flexing juga telah terjadi dalam kehidupan gereja khususnya di PPGT Klasis Makale Selatan yang dilakukan dalam beragam bentuk, tujuan serta motivasi. Kedua, flexing dan sophrosune atau keugaharian merupakan dua hal yang berbeda, bahkan berlawanan. Namun, keugaharian dapat digunakan sebagai cara untuk meminimalizir terjadinya flexing yang merupakan tindakan yang berlawanan dengan ciri Kerajaan Allah yang seharusnya diperlihatkan oleh gereja. Karena itu, hal ketiga ialah gereja perlu membangun sikap terhadap fenomena flexing dengan menyadari akan tugas tanggung jawab panggilannya di dalam dunia untuk menampakkan Kerajaan Allah dan dengan demikian harus menghindari flexing sebagai sebuah fenomena yang bertentangan dengan panggilannya. Kata Kunci: flexing; gereja; PPGT; sophrosune  ABSTRACT This article is motivated by the emergence of a popular culture due to the times, namely flexing, which makes the perpetrators show off their wealth or everything they have without considering their condition, motivation and consequences. This also has an impact on church life, especially for young people as part of and the largest users of current developments, especially social media. Therefore, this paper looks at the flexing phenomenon that occurs among the PPGT Classis South Makale which is analyzed theologically by utilizing the theory of sophrosune or keugaharian. The research method used in this paper is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach where the data used in this paper comes from interviews, observations and literature studies. The results show that: first, the flexing phenomenon has also occurred in church life, especially in PPGT Klasis South Makale, which is carried out in various forms, purposes and motivations. Second, flexing and sophrosune or keugaharian are two different things, even opposites. However, daily life can be used as a way to minimize the occurrence of flexing which is an action that is contrary to the characteristics of the Kingdom of God that the church should display. Therefore, the third thing is that the church needs to develop an attitude towards the flexing phenomenon by being aware of the responsibility of its calling in the world to reveal the Kingdom of God and thus must avoid flexing as a phenomenon that is contrary to its calling.
